How can placing runners in busy corridors protect flooring underneath?

Corridors and hallways get more foot traffic than almost any other part of the house. Over time, this constant use can wear down finish, dull surfaces and leave visible paths on wood, laminate or even some tiles.

Runners – long, narrow rugs – act like shields. They take the brunt of the wear while the floor underneath stays in better condition. If the runner gets worn or stained over the years, it’s far cheaper to replace a rug than to refinish or change the flooring.

Runners also make corridors feel warmer, reduce noise from footsteps, and add colour or pattern to what might otherwise be a plain space.

It’s a practical and decorative solution in one.
