Herbs are some of the most useful and forgiving plants you can grow. Placing them near the kitchen door – in pots, a small raised bed, or even a narrow strip of soil – means you’re more likely to actually use them.
When you’re cooking and realise you need some mint, basil or coriander, you can quickly step out and snip a few sprigs. If the herbs were at the far end of the garden, you’d probably skip it half the time.
Visually, a little herb corner near the door looks charming. Different leaf shapes and shades of green, plus the scent when you brush past, make the entrance feel alive. It’s a small, everyday luxury.
Many herbs stay relatively compact and can be mixed with flowers too, so you get usefulness and beauty in the same small patch.
