Squeaky hinges are usually a small, easy-to-fix annoyance. A bit of oil or lubricant generally quiets them down. But they’re also a little reminder that things in the house are moving, rubbing and ageing over time.
If many hinges start squeaking at once, or if doors begin to scrape floors or frames, it might indicate slight shifts in the building, humidity changes, or just long-term settling. None of that is automatically serious, but it’s a good moment to look around more carefully.
You might notice other small signs of wear: loose handles, minor cracks, peeling sealant. Rather than just fixing one squeak, you can use it as a trigger to do a mini check-up and tighten or refresh a few things at once.
That way, small issues stay small instead of building up into a list that feels overwhelming.
