When you turn off a tap, a few leftover drops are normal. But if it continues to drip steadily for a long time, even when fully closed, it’s usually a sign that something inside – like a washer, cartridge or seal – is worn or damaged.
You might get used to the sound and start tuning it out, but each drip is wasted water and, over weeks, adds up. In some cases, dripping taps can stain basins or cause mineral buildup where the water lands.
Noticing that a tap takes ages to stop dripping is your cue to investigate or call someone. Often, the fix is relatively simple compared to the annoyance and waste of ignoring it.
So those tiny sounds after you close a tap aren’t just background noise. They’re little maintenance messages.
