Why should flexible hoses under sinks be checked for bulges or cracks?

Flexible hoses under sinks are convenient, but they’re often the weak points in a plumbing setup. Over time, they can wear out, especially if they’re bent sharply, rubbed against something, or made from cheaper materials.

Bulges, cracks, rust on fittings, or dampness around connections are all early warning signs. If ignored, the hose can burst or split, sending a surprising amount of water into the cabinet and onto the floor in a short time.

Because these hoses are out of sight, we rarely think about them until they fail. A quick glance every now and then while grabbing cleaning supplies can prevent that. If anything looks suspicious, replacing a hose is usually far cheaper than repairing water damage to cabinets and floors.

It’s a classic case of “cheap part, big consequences” – so a little attention goes a long way.
